MAC Cosmetics stores can be a hoppin’ scene: loads of customers, MAC Artists, loud music, bright lights, bombastic colors and beautiful makeovers are everywhere. But sometimes, not every customer wants to be helped by a MAC artist, or the artists aren’t available for every customer. MAC therefore wanted a digital solution to assist customers in selecting the right foundation. The Foundation Finder digital touchscreen kiosk app was designed to be installed directly among existing display shelves, to take on the look of the surroundings while breathing a new digital personality into the store.

The original kiosk app build was long-run tested and is still in use at the SOHO MAC Store in NYC. Continuous monitoring and stabilization efforts have yielded a system that is completely self sustaining, and a series of automated monitoring tools and self-diagnostic utilities enable the system to self correct without human intervention.

MAC Foundation Finder Digital Kiosk App

The large format touchscreen is integrated into an existing product showcase. The attract screen seamlessly matches the surrounding physical artwork and display shelves, and subtle animation creates visual intrigue to draw in the customer.

Customers are given a series of 6 questions and selections, each starting with an educational video. The selections are given values and rated against available foundation products. Skin tone, preferred formula, and intended use all factor into the best product recommendations.

The customer can choose to either utilize the recommendations immediately in-store, or take away the list for later use via email and text message.
